The role of our trustees

Our trustees are volunteer board members who set strategic direction, provide advice and support to the executive and ensure the charity’s work delivers its objectives.

Who we need

We’re looking for trustees who can help us at this exciting time. Are you passionate about Morecambe Bay? Can you help us care for the Bay; its nature, its heritage and its people?

We are keen to achieve a more diverse board of trustees and welcome applications from all sections of the community.

We’re also looking for applicants with the following skills and backgrounds – but we don’t expect to find all these attributes in one person:

1. Marketing – can you help us sell the value of our charity? We need help to increase our profile & raise funds to deliver our charitable objectives.

2. Business – can you help us connect with Bay businesses to support and share our aims?

3. Income Generation – Perhaps you can help us find corporate supporters and partners aligned with our values and who will work with us for the good of the Bay and its future?

4. Charity Finance & Governance – do you have experience and skills in financial reporting, particularly in a charity? Do you have an attention to detail when it comes to management accounts & budgets? And if you’ve been a charity trustee before & understand the workings of charity reporting & governance, we’d love to hear from you.

5. Legal – can you offer help with legal insights and advice? From helping us draw up a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with partners to advice on Heads of Terms. Maybe you can help us promote legacy giving to clients?

6. Younger people (including trustees aged 18-30) – Are you 18 to 30 years? Can you help us keep Morecambe Bay special for future generations, by becoming one of our trustees? Do you work with young people between 18 to 30? Can you help us reach more young people who want to shape the future of Morecambe Bay?

Time commitment and Board meetings

Board meetings are held four times a year both remotely (online) and ‘in person’ at locations around Morecambe Bay – for example, we have met in Grange over Sands, Silverdale and Arnside. The total time commitment averages around three hours each month. The roles are unpaid but we can pay reasonable travel expenses.
